This Seamaster Deluxe is a fantastic example of US market Omega watches imported by the Norman Morris Co. into the USA. In the years post WWII, significant taxes were imposed on the import of Swiss watches cased in precious metals. The way to overcome these taxes was to import the naked movements and assemble the watches in the US using a locally made case. Hence, a collection of US specific models emerged. The Morris company apparently had quite a bit of freedom when it came to marketing and, on a few models, added extra text to the dials, probably thinking this would enhance sales. This appears to be the case with the example above. The two-tone dial is in the original condition the watch was purchased in (mid 1950’s) and bears the “Deluxe” text underneath the “Seamster” on the dial. The case is 14K yellow gold and houses a full rotor automatic cal. 500 movement.
